Mrs. Benson’s Class Pumpkins
Mrs. Benson’s class created pumpkins on the website ABCya.com. Once they made their pumpkin, students were asked to write a sentence about the pumpkins using adjectives we discussed!
I would make a good leprechaun because… by Mrs. Benson’s Class
Mrs. Benson’s first graders first discussed with a partner & as a class what qualities make a good leprechaun. Next they wrote an answer to the question, “Why would you make a good leprechaun?” (You can find that recording sheet here.) Finally, students used the ChatterPix Kids app to record themselves reading their sentences. Enjoy their work!
Mrs. Benson’s Class Learned About Washington & Lincoln
Mrs. Benson’s class watched BrainPopJr. videos about George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. As they were watching, they used this recording sheet to take notes about things they found interesting. Next they used the ChatterPix app to make an animated video about what they learned. Enjoy their work!

Clifford’s First Snow Day by Mrs. Benson’s Class
Mrs. Benson’s 1st graders watched a video story of Clifford’s First Snow Day. Next they used Popplet to make a graphic organizer of what they would need for a snow day with Clifford. Popplet can be used online or as an app on a mobile device. Their work was compiled via a Photos slideshow on a Macbook. Enjoy their work!
Hour of Code Week!
Mrs. Benson’s students recently participated in the worldwide Hour of Code event to celebrate Computer Science Education week. (Click the embeded links to learn more about these events.) When students work on coding, they are learning to collaborate with others, developing critical thinking and problem solving skills, learning how computers and programming works and having fun! Some of the coding apps we use are:
Christmas Tree Adjectives by Mrs. Benson’s Class
Mrs. Benson’s 1st graders listened to the book, Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree, and listened for describing words (adjectives) that would describe a Christmas tree.
Next they used the Christmas Tree Fun game by abcya.com to decorate a Christmas tree and write their own describing word for a Christmas tree with ornaments. Enjoy their work!

Mrs. Benson’s first graders watched this BrainPopJr. video about Thanksgiving. After discussing what it means to be thankful, they used StoryboardThat to make a picture and write a sentence about what they are thankful for. Enjoy their work!
