In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. day, Ms. Jones’ students learned about his life and his work. First, they watched a BrainPop, Jr. video about him.
Next, we discussed how people like to commemorate his impact on our country by dedicating buildings, streets and statues in his name or likeness. We looked at these examples:
Finally, students were asked to use their tools of choice to design their own building, street or statue to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The tools they used include: Paint Go! (by abcya.com), Make a House (by abcya.com), and the Drawing Pad app on the iPads. Enjoy their work!
Ms. Jones’ class listened to the book Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester online by visiting this Symbaloo webmix. Then they worked with a partner using the iPad app Drawing Pad to draw a picture of Tacky and write adjectives describing him. Their work was assembled using kizoa.com. Enjoy their work!

Ms. Jones’ class made Christmas cards using this card maker from abcya.com. Before making them, we discussed how our military serves our country every day of the year, even on holidays. Students were asked to keep our service men and women in mind as they created their cards. These cards have been printed out and sent to a group of our military men and women serving overseas.
