Learning About Martin Luther King, Jr.

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. day, Mrs. Smith’s students learned about his life and his work.  First, they watched a BrainPop, Jr. video about him.

Next, we discussed how people like to commemorate his impact on our country by dedicating buildings, streets and statues in his name or likeness.  We looked at these examples:

Finally, students were asked to use their tools of choice to design their own building, street or statue to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.    The tools they used include:  Paint Go! (by abcya.com), Make a House (by abcya.com), and the Drawing Pad app on the iPads.  Enjoy their work!

Skyping with Santa

White Oak Primary students had fun this morning Skyping with Santa!  Santa was very kind to take time out of his busy schedule to answer all our questions.  Thank you Santa Claus!  Merry Christmas!

Hour of Code

Maker Day

Mrs. Smith’s class had a “Maker Day.”  They used a variety of materials to construct, use their imaginations, explore a few physics concepts, tell stories and have fun.  Among the materials they used were:

  • Macbooks
  • Contraptions
  • Georello Tech
  • K’Nex
